From my earliest years, sewing and hand crafts have been a part of my life. My grandmother and mother both considered “the sewing machine” to be an essential piece of furniture in their homes. I cherish my grandmother’s machine - still in my home today. But I have definitely moved into the 21st century in my personal sewing room.
Hand crafting, like cross stitch and embroidery, filled many enjoyable hours for me as a young child. Home Economics classes in high school began my love for garment sewing and pattern fitting. I received a B.S. in Clothing & Textiles/Home Economics from West Virginia Wesleyan College. After raising my family, I became a Master Fashion Maker through the Mobile County Extension Service.
For the next 18 years, I was a freelance instructor for a Mobile, AL Sewing Store. During those years, I also ran West Mobile Sewing Studio out of my home where I taught a wide variety of sewing classes. It was during those years, I developed a of love of teaching children to sew. What an honor it is to be able to pass on the love of a craft that I am so passionate about! In 2002, I co-founded All About Sewing in West Mobile where I now oversee a state-of-the-art Sewing Classroom and teach machine mastery, basic sewing and many specialty classes. In 2012, I became the sole owner of All About Sewing and now, mostly sew vicariously through my students and customers.
Hi, my name is Scooter. I am a rescue dog of mixed breed – most think of me as a Bird Dog. My family found me wandering the streets near their house on Christmas morning. I was starving, had heart worms and was a nervous wreck. They loved me, fed me well, and took me to the vet to get well.
Now I go to work every day with my mom and love to greet all the customers that walk through the doors of All About Sewing. Check out the beautiful hand made rugs I am lying on. My Friend Ginger Thomas made them and I love to lay on them when she brings them in for show and tell.
I love kids as long as they are calm like me. Mom says I am the perfect store mascot because I don’t jump, lick or run away when the door opens. I love to be petted. Please come soon and visit me. Can’t wait to meet you or see you again!
Hello, my name is Emily and I have worked at All About Sewing for about five years, but I have grown up in the store most of my life. I am 21 years old, and I am currently a Senior at the University of South Alabama pursuing my degree in Early Child Development, as well as K-6 Elementary and Special Education. My grandmother has been a huge influence on my love of sewing since I was around seven years old, and I have been sewing and embroidering since.
I attended Kids Camp at All About Sewing when I was young, and now I am here to help our customers learn as I did. I work in sales, and I teach one-on-one classes on many of our machines and certain software that we carry. Arts and crafts and "DIY" (do-it-yourself) projects have always been my niche, and I am so happy to be working in an atmosphere where I can express my creativity!
My name is Karen, and I have worked at All About Sewing for nearly three years now, and I enjoy every moment here! I love to sew with my own unique style. Bags, purses, and garments are my patterns of choice. I typically answer the phones, and look forward to hearing from you soon!
